Indiana Debate Commission elects new officer, board members

Elizabeth Bennion, a professor of political science at Indiana University-South Bend, is the new president of the Indiana Debate Commission. She was among the new officers and board members elected at the Commission’s annual meeting on January 28.

Cathleen Shrader, an attorney in Fort Wayne, was elected vice president and Thomas Maloney of Lakeshore Public Broadcasting in Merrillville is the new secretary. Scott Uecker of the University of Indianapolis is continuing as treasurer.

New board members elected to three-year terms include Thomas Weber, retired from WISH-TV and owner of Weber Broadcast Services, and Lloyd Wright, the retired former general manager of WFYI Public Media in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Debate Commission is a non-partisan, statewide group of affiliate organizations dedicated to promoting debates at the state level. The Commission works with candidates, sponsors, venues, media and citizen groups to promote open, unbiased and transparent debates for Hoosier voters. Since 2008, the Commission has organized 21 debates in the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial campaigns.
