The Indiana Debate Commission’s April 30 televised U.S. Senate Republican primary debate includes a three-candidate field in what will be the only statewide debate offered live to hundreds of Indiana media outlets.

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita had initially declined, while Indiana businessman Mike Braun and U.S. Rep. Luke Messer had confirmed the hour-long time slot to debate. With all three now committed with an agreement signed today, the April 30 debate will be broadcast 7 p.m. EDT.

Media outlets will be sent specifications at a later date for the live satellite feed and also to share the debate online or in their social media channels.

“Debate is a great option for Hoosier voters who may be undecided, and we’re pleased that all candidates in this contested GOP primary are now 100 percent invested in this final debate before the May 8 primary,” said Commission President Gerry Lanosga.

“The commission continues to be a non-partisan voice for all Indiana voters by making the debate option available to candidates in statewide and contested races,” Lanosga added. “Opening debates up to Hoosier voters is a significant milestone for Indiana campaigns that started in 2007. That mission – Putting Voters First – has not changed. Voters can continue to be active and involved by submitting their questions to us online.”

The winner of the May 8 Republican primary will go on to challenge U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, the Democrat incumbent who is completing his first six-year term and was not challenged in a primary contest.
